My name is Myles Stewart. I am a sophomore sociology major with an international studies minor, on a pre-law track attending Morehouse College. I represent the South Side of Chicago and am running for the position of Junior Class Justice within the Student Government Association, aiming to bridge the gap between fair and just enforcement of school policies and approachable and personable leadership. The key guiding value of my campaign is to recognize the importance of the village that raises its child, asserting the slogan of JUST US. Recognizing that it is “Just Us”, in the sense that our black community is our main source of comfort and community, and paying homage to the Jus Us neighborhood of Southwest Atlanta, and recognizing the role of unity in creating positive solutions.

In our campaign, one of the key pillars is community activism. Given the juxtaposition of rich cultural soil and poor economic condition of our surrounding West End community, it is our job as servant leaders to engage such a community in real-time efficacious practice, rather than words of solidarity. We hope to invest not only time but also financial resources into the community, specifically through our commitment to Our House, a homeless shelter who provides a pathway to stability and independence for families experiencing homelessness through access to health care, early childhood education, housing, and employment. Their interrelated programs address the root causes of homelessness, ensuring that every family that leaves Our House has the tools needed to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.

This, in tandem with the work we plan to do on campus, will ensure that the confluence of justice, equity, activism, culture, and empathy will allow us to create lasting solutions to the problems that plague our environment.
