Myles & Lis's Downpayment Fund
Donation protected
Hi friends & family (and curious internet strangers?),
As soon-to-be newlyweds, we're thinking a lot about this next phase of life. That includes saving for a downpayment on our future family home! As first-time home buyers in Canada, we’ve learned how common it is to receive support from loved ones, and while we don’t expect anything, we wanted to open the door for anyone who might wish to help us find a place of our own.
Homeownership still feels like a dream to me. I haven't always had a safe or comfortable place to live. While I am full of gratitude for the life I've had, I honestly never believed that the stability of a real family home would be an option for me. But Myles has this remarkable way of making me believe in things I thought were impossible. It’s one of the (many) reasons I’m marrying him.
That said, we might not be able to pull it off alone. I was shocked to learn that the average gift for a first-time homebuyer in Canada is $115,000. Obviously, that number is outrageous, and I think it speaks to a wider problem facing younger Canadians today. I don't expect nearly anything like that, but I wanted to leave this door open anyway.
Please know that there is no pressure at all to donate (how can I stress this enough?). It's important to me that you make choices you're comfortable with. This is just an option! But if you do choose to donate, we promise to always invite you to extremely fun dinner parties and to keep a little picture of you in the foyer.
