Myles Hemsley

My name is Elle, proudly otherwise known as Myles’s big sister. Two months ago, we tragically lost this beautiful boy during his fight against leukaemia on the 30th march. Myles fought for 10 long years against this awful illness but showed such strength, courage and sheer bravery along the way, touching every life he ever crossed paths with. He inspired those around him to make the most out of life and to help others as much as you can despite what you may have going on. If you were lucky enough to have met this beautiful soul, then you would have known a true friend, a true love, and a true MAN. He inspires me to push myself to do better every day even when I can’t be bothered, because you truly never know when it’s your time. He taught me not to count the days, but to make the days count. Last year, despite just coming out of intensive treatment, Myles took part in a 115 mile bike ride from Cardiff to Evesham, for the charity Young Lives VS Cancer who helped us all as a family during these hard times.

This year, I will be taking part in the yearly event raising money for the same charity in memory of my baby bro. Every single penny donated towards this charity is a penny well spent that help many families just like ours along the way during this awful time. They make life a lot easier when it feels like I can’t get any worse ❤️

Children and young people with cancer need special treatment because their cancer is different to adults’ and it can only be treated in certain hospitals, many miles from home. 71% of young people and families say they are struggling to meet the costs of travelling to treatment.

Today, 12 children and young people will hear the news that they have cancer. In an instant, their whole world can feel like it’s turned upside down. Young Lives vs Cancer is the only charity in the UK with specialist social workers who provide tailored support to children and young people with cancer, and their families. We help them to navigate the emotional and practical impact of cancer. And we stop at nothing to make their voices heard and their unique needs understood, so they can get the right care and support at the right time.
