South Africa Study Abroad Trip

Hi everyone!
Recently I was given an amazing opportunity to study abroad this summer in South Africa with the Bridge Education Abroad Institute (BEAI). I am a second year at the University of California, Riverside and am studying sociology; more specifically, how that can be applied to leadership and higher education. The process to receive good leadership, academic, and global experience has become extremely competitive within educational institutions, making this opportunity fairly exclusive.
This summer, twenty other students from around the world and I will study subjects such as global leadership, entrepreneurship, health, conflict resolution, and the history and politics of South Africa. The program will provide lectures from local professors, political guest speakers, and representatives of various non-profit and private organizations. As students, we will be taking more of a hands on study approach through cultural excursions and group community service projects.
Not only will going on this trip allow me to become more globally aware, it will help me to pursue my dream of inspiring others to push themselves out of their comfort zones, and become great leaders through experiences such as this one. I strongly believe that one of the first steps towards making higher education more inclusive and impactful is through programs much like BEAI's South Africa Study Abroad. It is a firm belief of mine that great leaders come from being globally aware, and great education comes from great leaders.
I would like to invite all of you to follow me on this journey, as I step out of my comfort zone to become a more globally aware leader, and young professional. As with most things, there is a financial aspect, which is where I would like to ask for your help. Any support that you can provide will make a significant difference. Your efforts would go towards acknowledging the history of an underserved community, as well as inspiring future leaders to continue promoting social and academic change. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all of your positive help and support.
Much love and gratitude,
Myla Duane
