Hi, I’m Céline Klein, a local filmmaker and the owner of Jamstone Productions. I grew up in France and made the move to Kingston, Ontario, in 2018. Back in France, I studied Audiovisual Production Management and Documentary Direction in Quebec.
Since moving to Kingston, I’ve focused a lot of my work in the local music industry. I have several years of experience as a director and cinematographer, collaborating with musicians on various video projects, including music videos, live performance videos, and behind the scenes photography. I feel deeply connected to the music scene here in Kingston.
I’m currently raising funds for Half Steps: Musicians and Mental Health, a project that explores the relationship between musicianship and mental wellbeing. The documentary profiles Miss Emily and Ricky Brant, two prominent Kingston-based musicians who have faced mental health struggles throughout their lives and careers. Through their stories, we’ll delve into how these challenges have shaped their journeys and ultimately examine the connection between musicianship and mental health.
I am lucky to be supported by a stellar production team. Writer and co-producer Matthew Sandell is a talented storyteller and independent filmmaker who brings a social science perspective to this complex subject. Associate producer Shanique Peart is a local creative whose role involves fundraising, marketing and partnerships, as well as general production management. Finally, experienced local videographer and filmmaker Josh Lyon will lend his diverse skillset in various principal photography roles.
My partner is a local musician who lives with mental health challenges. This sometimes affects his ability to pursue his passion and impact other areas of his life. This personal experience is what inspired me to create this documentary. Since first pitching the idea to members of the community, I am so grateful to have received encouragement and support from our local musicians. It reinforces my belief in the importance of this project and the voices and stories it hopes to platform.
