My Dad's Medical Bill Fund

February 23rd, 2016 marks the start of a long journey.
My dad, Yuriy Lebedev, is the rock, the pillar of my family. He is our protector, provider, and biggest supporter. My dad is the most committed, dedicated, and loyal person that I have ever met. He is someone that will help right away if you need it. He will jump through hoops of fire if need be to get there, but since he is so smart and wise, he will find an alternate route to save you. He is always the light of the party with his jokes, charisma, and contagious laughter. He is the first person I talk to when I have a bad day because his life experience and wisdom always find a way to cheer me up and raise me up.
Almost daily, we hear devastating news on the TV of loved ones' illness or tragic death, and never think that it could happen to you or the ones you cherish most. You expect that when your family leaves the house for work or for a quick errand, that they are coming back within minutes or hours. That is what I was expecting.
On Tuesday night February 23rd, 2016, my dad ran out to help my sister with her car a few miles from home, and on his way back, the unthinkable happened. My dad was struck head on by a car and was taken to St. Vincent hospital.
This is what we know now.
On the scene, my dad was found by police and EMS to be unresponsive. They rushed him to the hospital as fast as they could so he didn't slip away. Once my dad arrived at the Emergency Department, medical professionals assessed that my dad had been inflicted with a massive brain injury that required immediate ventilator support and intracranial pressure monitoring. Due to his current unconscious state, it is unclear the damage that was done to his brain, and prognosis of recovery.
Currently, my dad is in a Trauma Intensive Care Unit being closely watched and cared for by several teams of physicians, intensivists, surgeons, and nurses. He has yet to wake up.
The money raised will help lighten the financial burden that lay heavy on my mother's shoulders. We are anticipating overwhelming medical expenses, and we are doing everything we can to try to get ahead of them. Currently, both my mother, Tatyana and my older sister, Olga, are on leave of absences from their jobs to take care of my dad and make medical decisions for him, since he cannot do so for himself at this time.
Already, friends and family have been helping us in any way that they can. From coming to the hospital and offering moral support, to bringing meals to the hospital and to our home, assisting with my two-year-old nephew, and three-year-old niece to allow for frequent trips to the hospital, or even to come up and spend time with us to think and pray. Everyone has been incredibly comforting and supportive. We are so thankful and very humbled for everything that our loved ones are doing for us, and we would do all of the same for them.
Thank you so much for sharing in our story. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, as he needs the strongest prayer network than ever before.
