On September 10, while bodysurfing in Rio de Janeiro, Scott suffered a freak accident and was severely injured and initially paralyzed.
He was medivaced to a local hospital and, thankfully, he is regaining movement and strength. He has however sustained a spinal cord injury with extensive nerve damage and pain. While we’re incredibly grateful for his progress, he still faces a long road of medical treatment and rehabilitation. We’ve set a fundraising goal of $50,000 to help cover these critical costs.
Because this happened outside the U.S., Scott’s medical costs were not covered by insurance and with the long uncertain road ahead he is facing insurmountable costs on his own. The expenses for emergency transport, hospitalization, upcoming procedures and recovery are overwhelming, and we’re reaching out to his friends, extended family, peers and community for support.
Every donation—large or small—will go directly toward Scott’s medical care, rehabilitation, and the specialized support he’ll need in the weeks and months ahead.
Thank you for keeping Scott in your thoughts and for helping us rally around him so he can focus fully on healing.
With love and gratitude,
The Sullivan family.
