To know Mychellya is to love her —she is a bright ray of sunshine!

Mychellya was recently diagnosed with cancer and will soon be undergoing surgery leading to her losing eyesight in her right eye.

In December of 2023, a visit to the optometrist led to the discovery of a suspicious mass on Mychellya’s eye. Her optometrist recommended she immediately visit a specialist. A visit to MD Anderson in Houston on January 17th led to Mychellya being diagnosed with Uveal Melanoma (cancer located in the center of her right eye). A follow up appointment took place on March 20th, and scans revealed the mass had tripled in size since January. It was during this appointment that specialists at MD Anderson told Mychellya that she would need to undergo surgery and radiation.

Doctors have informed Mychellya that she will most likely lose all of her eyesight in her right eye following her treatment (taking place at the end of April).

Mychellya will have to spend up to 2.5 weeks in Houston while undergoing two surgeries and radiation treatment. Following her time in Houston, she will return to Abilene. However, upon returning home she will be unable to work for an additional 2 weeks and unable to drive for 8 weeks.

This type of cancer is known to metastasis to lung and liver. Thus, for the first year, Mychellya will be required to undergo intense follow ups every month and will continue to undergo routine check-ups each year following.

Friends are invited to walk alongside Mychellya through this journey. Funds raised will go towards medical expenses and travel between Abilene and Houston.
