Mycelium Theatre Company, founded by director Hope Wishart and designer Enza Kim, is a new multidisciplinary, ensemble-led company creating handmade cinematic theatre that transforms space, sense, and imagination. We make analogue theatre for the digital age; stretching imaginations through the meeting of movement and design.
We take our name from mycelium; the underground network that enables trees to communicate, share resources, and grow together. We believe the same is true for people: authentic connection allows us to transform challenges, spark creativity, and build spaces where imagination can flourish.
Our work is highly visual and sensory driven, designed to spark curiosity, offer new perspectives, and invite audiences to experience the world with fresh eyes. At our core, we seek to build connections through embodied experience, encouraging audiences to feel deeply, see differently, and rediscover wonder in being fully present.
Our debut production, A Microscopic Odyssey, was devised with a group of LAMDA students and staged at Theatre503. Based on the real-life story of the Microscopist James Weiss the show explores the transformative effect of understanding the world and your place with in it as an intricate ecosystem.
We are currently redeveloping the show for a new run at the Golden Goose Theatre, 13–17 January 2026, marking our first official professional production as a company.
But this is only the beginning.
We aim to continue evolving A Microscopic Odyssey, bringing it to larger stages and audiences across the UK. Alongside this, we are constantly dreaming and developing new ideas, pushing the boundaries of our creative voice and actively engaging in R&D for new productions. As we grow, our ambition is to shape, challenge, and enrich the theatre landscape through our distinctive style and perspective.
We are primarily raising money to fund Microscopic Odyssey's Golden Goose run. But the theatre scene is a landscape still recovering from the impact of COVID, where funding is limited and competition for resources is high. Any additional support we receive will not only help bring A Microscopic Odyssey to life in January, but also provide vital stability as we grow, with our aim being Edinburgh Fringe. Your contribution will go directly toward the development of our company, future productions, and the continued evolution of A Microscopic Odyssey, helping us create without hanging by a thread.
Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated!
Much love,
Mycelium Theatre Company
