MY WILD ATLANTIC CHALLENGE
Hello, my name is Eugene. I’m 70 years old, I have cancer — and 13th September 2025, I’m going for a swim.
Not just any swim, though.
I’ll be taken out by boat into the wild Atlantic, somewhere off the coast of Mayo… and I’ll be thrown in (willingly, I might add!). From there, I’ll swim all the way back to the shores of Galway.
Why? Because I want to turn something tough — my own illness, my grief, and the pain I’ve carried — into something meaningful.
I lost my beautiful wife Paula to cancer. She was the heart of our family. The kindest, strongest woman I’ve ever known. I miss her every day. I’m doing this swim in her memory — to honour her, and to raise money for two causes that are close to my heart:
Cancer research, to help others like Paula and myself.
Cuan Mhuire Newry, an incredible addiction support centre helping people get their lives back on track.
I may be 70 and fighting cancer, but I still have fight left in me — and this swim is my way of showing it.
If you can spare anything at all, please donate. Every pound/euro will go to making a difference. If you can’t donate, sharing this page and spreading the word would mean the world to me.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping me turn this challenge into hope.
