Hello, I'm Jackie and my partner Charlie and I have a beautiful, loving cat in desperate need of help. Her name is Penguin, and she means the world to me.
She was the first cat we adopted together and we love her like she was our child. A week ago (1/23/23) she started displaying some VERY alarming symptoms, and we rushed to an emergency clinic.
I initially was scared she had an intestinal block, but after X-rays and bloodwork, the first clinic we went to said she had an infection they weren't equipped to treat and sent us to a 24 hour clinic to get an ultrasound. We had at this point maxed out the money we had available from CareCredit.
The 24 hour emergency clinic wanted to charge us over $4000 for the test she ideally needed (an ultrasound), we couldn't afford it, so they charged us $300 more for doing absolutely nothing and sending her home with a dangerous fever and a perscription for some antibiotics.
The very next day first thing we went to another emergency clinic only to find their ultrasound technician would be unavailable for a month. They checked her pancreas with a different test, said they thought it was gastroenteritis, and sent us home with more antibiotics and some meds for her appetite and a probiotic.
She was initially responding well to those for a few days but started to get worse. We went back to the vet, they gave her MORE antibiotics and nausea medicine, and in the 24 hours since then, she has only gotten MARKEDLY worse and is wheezing, coughing, sneezing, can't breathe, has severe discharge streaming from her eyes, shaking/purring in discomfort, has a fever again. We went to another ER and they do fortunately have an ultrasound tech who can give her the test she needs to see what's going on with her organs, but it's going to cost $1500 (on top of about $200 for some meds to try to keep her alive through the night, and a humidifier to try to help her breathe).
We're at our financial limit and just want to help our beloved curly girl. We need to figure out what's wrong with her desperately because it's clear all the medicine we've paid for over the week has been completely ineffective and she's only getting worse... It's so scary. Please help us figure out what's wrong with our kitty ;; We might need more help to pay for whatever treatment she needs as well, but we have no idea what that's going to cost, because even trying to get a diagnosis has been absolute hell.
TLDR: We've gone broke even trying to properly diagnose our cat and now she's doing very badly. We need help to figure out what's hurting her, and probably help with treatment as well.
I'm so sorry to have to ask for help like this but I don't know what else to do. I appreciate any help you can give, even if it's just sharing this fundraiser around. ANYTHING helps! Thank you so much.
Love, Jackie and Charlie
