My Vancouver Film School Dream

Hi, My name is Roman. I’ve been attending University in Waterloo and Majored in Film. My university (Wilfred Laurier University) has an opportunity to apply for Vancouver Film School through our institution. It has been a dream of mine ever since I was a kid to involve myself to some capacity in film. Everybody loves movies but I’ve always been fascinated and intrigued by the process from start to finish of making the movie. Recently, I applied to Vancouver Film School without the expectation of being accepted but not only was I accepted, they gave me hope by being impressed by my grades and my “potential based on work.” Vancouver Film School in just this last year alone has had nearly 200 alumni incorporated in Oscar wins and nearly 400 in Emmy wins. I have been accepted into the Film Production pathway in hopes to become a successful producer and make my mark in the industry and put my ideas to screen. The only obstacle I now have is funding. The tuition alone for Vancouver Film School is $30,000 and that is not including my living expenses and rent. I am fully on my own when it comes to expenses. I work nearly 50 hours a week and apply for grants and scholarships but as of now all of my efforts will still be coming up short. People who know me know that I am not one to ask for help as I am stubbornly independent but I am deciding to swallow my pride and ask for help solely because this is genuinely my dream and now it’s not unrealistic anymore.
