My twin sister/ Myasthenia Gravis recovering

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carolina. I have a twin sister, Alexandra. My sister and I are Brazilian but my Twin has been living in the United States for 8 years now. She moved to the United States to pursue her dream of earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. She earned a student a visa and currently attends a College in NYC. With a lot of hard work and dedication, she's arrived at her last semester of college. She is only six months away from fulfilling her dream and graduating from Baruch College. Unfortunately, however, on January 10th, my sister was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease: Myasthenia Gravis.

Four years ago, random symptoms appeared: fatigue, difficulties swallowing and speech difficulties. At the beginning of 2019 she saw various doctors, but the tests done at the time were not conclusive. The symptoms persisted and soon it became difficult for her to to do everyday tasks and even walking became difficult. The concern became greater and two weeks ago a neurologist concluded she had the autoimmune disease, Myasthenia Gravis (MG), a rare serious neuromuscular disease of autoimmune origin, which causes progressive muscle weakness. It causes varying degrees of tiredness, mainly affecting the muscles and causing involuntary contraction. In addition, the chest muscles responsible for breathing also involuntarily contract. In this case it is the most critical and dangerous, since it can cause respiratory arrest. The lungs can stop functioning and a heart attack can occur. Without the necessary treatment, a person with this disease will get worse every day. But with the right treatment, you can live with this disease.
My sister has started treatment, however, as she has unknowingly had this disorder for years, it is now quite advanced and more difficult to treat.

On Janueray 17, 2020 she had to be admitted to the ICU, due to multiple myasthenia caused by the disease. For a few more hours her lungs stopped working properly. In the days since then, she's managed to get out of critical condition. She will need to undergo physical rehabilitation at the hospital for an unknown period of time in order to manage her symptoms and to be able to go back to walking, speaking, breathing normally.

I'm asking for your help because:
Due to this disease my sister is unable to work and therefore pay for rent or school. She lives alone in the country with no family, and Her student Visa depends on her being in school and also provides her with insurance. Without it , she would be sent back to Brazil a semester shy if graduating. We cannot predict when she will leave rehab at this point. We as her family are asking for your support in any way possible.

I want you to know that I am very grateful for your help, and may God bless you.

With love,
Carolina
