My Trigeminal Neuralgia Journey
Donation protected
Not many people have heard of Trigeminal Neuralgia. It is a horrific neuropathic condition that affects and sends electric shocks to the nerves controlling the sensations in your face. It is unforgiving and unpredictable. The only thing predictable about it is that it’s constant and touches everyone around you.
Many of my friends, family and extended family would say I’m one of the happiest and optimistic people they know. I would gladly help anyone and I hope those around me know they can always rely on me.
Unfortunately, my smiles and happy moments quickly began changing when I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia some months ago. It is one of the most painful diseases known to man, and it continues to affect and control many aspects of my life. Normal daily activities that I once took for granted, such as eating, brushing my teeth, washing my hair and sleeping are filled with pain and anxiety. After seeking out help from a variety of doctors I finally started a course of medicinal treatment- consisting of anti-seizure medicines, which have side-effects that are so bad that they compromise my functionality and quality of life.
After months of research and consultations and meeting with doctor after doctor and MRI’s and figuring out what combination of pills works just right and the probability of having invasive Micro Vascular Decompresson Surgery to relieve the compressed nerve in my brain, I discovered the NUCCA treatment and procedure. It is non-invasive offers me the greatest promise of remission without taking me away from my babies and the work that I love so much as a teacher. As a kindergarten special education teacher I am always on the move and I must always give my kids 100% of my attention and energy.
It’s high cost presents a new challenge for my family and I, but with God first and your help, that I am so humbly asking for, I know that a cure is a possibility. I pray for my fellow TN Warriors, you are not alone.
I have been fortunate enough to have so much support, love and understanding from the amazing people around me. I will never forget how selfless and kind you have been.
