Alastair Fraser - my Tour De 4 Fundraiser against Cancer
On September 7th I will be cycling 60km in Sir Chis Hoy's Tour de 4 for Cancer charities and in my case supporting Prostate cancer.
This is a cause I am passionate about having been diagnosed with Stage 3 Prostate cancer in December 2015. This became Stage 4 spreading to my vertebrae in June 2021. I have been tremendously lucky as my treatment has coincided with huge medical advances in this time. I believe in having a positive mindset and identify strongly with Chris Hoy in that respect. I feel that if my head is in a good place then it is easier for the rest of my body to follow! Therefore I am not "battling" or "fighting" my cancer as these are words that are emotive and conjure up the use of energy - energy I prefer to use constructively in fun family times, so I prefer to say that for the last 9.5 years cancer and I have been co-existing!
I don't focus on things I can't do any more but concentrate on what I can do and take enjoyment from that. One of these things is cycling, I have 2 e-bikes and in the last 4 years have covered nearly 3000 miles mainly in the beautiful Borders countryside around my home. Please join with me in supporting this very worthwhile cause, and thank you for reading this request.
Ps I am also delighted to be joined by my daughter Yvonne Whitehouse on this ride who is fundraising for her chosen charity The Karen Henderson Legacy Fund which is part of Make 2nds Count which supports secondary breast cancer patients.
