When I was diagnosed with an incurable (but treatable) cancer back in September 2024, I was training to ride 1000 miles across the UK. Unfortunately, ‘Terry’ (my tumour) had other plans—and since then, I’ve only managed about 60 miles, thanks to spending way too many days in hospital getting treatment. Turns out, it all makes you pretty knackered!
After six rounds of chemo, 12 rounds of radiotherapy, and three treatments into a two-year course of immunotherapy, I figured it was probably about time to try and get back on my bike. And what better excuse than supporting Chris Hoy and his ride for stage 4 cancer survivors and their families? It’s only 90km—but that’ll be my longest ride in a year, and it feels like the perfect place to start. You can read more about the event and Chris’ cancer journey here https://www.tourde4.com. The ride is on the 7th September this year, and is leaving from Chris’s velodrome in Glasgow.
Wessex Cancer Support have been absolute superstars, looking after me with counselling sessions and loads of complimentary therapies like reiki, reflexology, and just general love and kindness. They’ve been supporting local people affected by cancer and their families for over 40 years. I’d love to repay them for all the kindness I’ve received from everyone at the centre—and, more importantly, to help those who need their support even more than I do.
Every contribution makes a real difference, whether it’s a lot or a little. Anything helps. Thank you so much for your support.
