Hello folks, I hope to participate in the Tour de Chris Hoy this September. The legendary Scottish track cyclist is battling stage 4 prostate cancer and this event is a huge fundraiser for UK cancer charities.
To participate, all cyclists must raise at least £200. Now I do feel a bit weird asking people to sponsor me to do a distance (56 miles) that previously I would have done a few times a week. Well I ain't that cyclist right now!! Instead I cycle to work and all around Glasgow, volunteer with a Women's cycling charity and engage in cycling research and advocacy. It really is all about the bike for me!
I am hoping this challenge will get me back into cycling fitness and some consistency. Your sponsorship will increase my motivation!
For this challenge we could choose from a few hundred UK cancers charities. While I have supported a number of breast cancer charities in Ireland with my own personal donations, I really had to give this a lot of thought for a UK charity.
I have chosen UK Cervical Cancer. This is important to me based on my own experience with smear tests and treatment for abmormal cells (which is actually very common) in the NHS and the compassion I received at the same time as a cervical services scandal was happening in Ireland.
Consider donating the cost of a coffee. And truly every little helps!
