Cancer is a bastard....
In the last 10 years or so it feels like my wife and I have constantly heard the horrible words from family and friends "I have cancer..."
It feels like it is affecting more and more people that are close to us.
Last year I listened to Sir Chris Hoy's book where he detailed his own diagnoses and the effect on him and his family and friends. While listening the two things struck me. First was that Sir Chris is only a couple of months younger than me and the second point was a little over 10 years ago Sir Chris was probably one of the fittest people on the planet!
This hit home quite hard! Anybody of any age can get cancer, that I knew, but to hear about Chris Hoy, whom I have never met, just got me thinking a bit harder about my own health.
In the book Sir Chris mentioned about trying to put a ride together and as soon as I heard him say that I knew I was in. And recently I was lucky enough to hear Sir Chris interviewed at the Six Nations rugby and I was even more determined to get involved.
The Tour de 4 got setup at the start of this year and I will be doing the Blue Route which is a 37 mile loop out and back from the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome on 7th September.
