On September the 7th I will be taking part in the first Tour de 4, cycling 90km, for Cancer Research. Sir Chris Hoy's vision is to bring people together who have been affected by Stage 4 cancer to challenge perceptions, inspire hope and raise vital funds for cancer charities across the UK.
I have decided to ride for Cancer Research UK because without the vital work the charity funds life would look very different. In 2005 my wife Dawn was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. At that time the only treatment available was to remove it and hope for the best for no spread or recurrence. Fast forward 13 years to 2018 and we were devastated when she was diagnosed with secondary melanoma and were told this was Stage 4 cancer. Fortunately this time, thanks to the research and development of treatments during that 13 year period, there were treatments available and miraculously 7 years later she is still on her first line treatment as is doing well.
Cancer is shit, but thanks to the ongoing research Dawn and thousands of others are able to live full, rewarding lives with this horrible disease. Please support me to give something back. Thanks.
