At the end of May last year I received the shock diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer of the lower jaw. I underwent immediate, major surgery to remove the jaw/cancer, followed by an intensive radiotherapy programme. One year later I am happy to confirm I have survived and am now in the "unremarkable" category, feeling lucky to be alive.
I have set myself the challenge of joining Sir Chris Hoy's Tour de 4 and completing the 60Km Blue ride on Sunday 7th September this year.
I have embarked on my training programme, under the watchful eye of son-in-law, Jonny Hawkesford, who will be joining me on this ride.
I have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support as my charity, knowing first-hand the amazing support and encouragement the MacMillan nurses bring to the cancer sufferer and to the whole family.
Please help me to support the Macmillan nurses by donating via the link to my “Go fund me page” below
Did I mention, at 80 years of age, I am hoping to be one of the oldest Stage 4 participants in the race!
Thank you in advance and do join me for the Big Event if you can – on Sunday 7th September, starting from Sir Chris Hoy’s Velodrome in Glasgow.
