My Tour De 4 Fundraiser to Support Cancer Research

Hello! I'm Jess and I will be taking part in 3 upcoming events to raise funds for Cancer Research UK (CRUK).

  • 85 Mile CRUK Caledonia Etape 11th May 2025
  • 56 Mile Chris Hoy Tour de 4 Red Ride 7th September 2025
  • San Sebastian Half Marathon 5th October 2025

In September 2024, after beating prostate cancer in 2019, my brilliant dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, caused by a mutation in a gene called EGFR. This came as a huge shock, as a healthy non-smoker. Despite common misconceptions, anyone with lungs can get lung cancer, yet lung cancer continues to receive less research funding compared to other cancers. Cancer Research UK are one of the charities working to address these challenges and improve research funding.
During this fundraiser, I hope to raise awareness that anyone can be at risk of developing lung cancer so that this area will receive increased funding and targeted research.

Thanks to previous successes in cancer research, my dad is able to continue to live well, with the help of a targeted therapy. However, there's still a lot more to be done to continue improving cancer outcomes for everyone living with all types of cancer, which is why I am choosing to raise money for CRUK. The funds raised for CRUK are vital for supporting every aspect of cancer research; from academia to clinical trials and from discovery and prevention to detection and treatment.

The Tour De 4 is an exciting new charity event set up by Sir Chris Hoy which aims to remove the stigma of living with cancer, inspire hope, encourage open conversations and raise funds for a variety of cancer charities in the UK. Thanks to the targeted therapy, my dad is also hoping to take part in the yellow ride inside the velodrome on the 7th September. I think this is an amazing example of how, even with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, you can still live well and do the activities you enjoy in different ways.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page, donate, and join me in these important conversations. All funds raised will go to Cancer Research UK. Please feel free to follow along with my training on Strava!
