My Tour De 4 Fundraiser to Fight Cancer

Donation protected
I'm taking part in Chris Hoy's 'Tour de 4' cancer charity fundraiser cycle ride on September 7th; I'm raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK. I aim to complete a 90Km (56 mile) route.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2024. I had no obvious symptoms, apart from peeing more often, but decided to get myself checked after several high-profile news stories about prostate cancer diagnoses. I was, hopefully, just in time as, despite my biopsy and scans showing two aggressive tumours on my prostate gland, and signs of cancer cells in the lymph nodes in my hips, my prognosis was positive and I embarked on a curative treatment programme in January 2025. I completed a gruelling three month chemotherapy treatment at the end of April and will be undergoing radiotherapy during July.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, 1 in 8 men get it. If you’re over 50, or you’re Black, or you have a family history of the disease, then your risk is even higher. There is currently no screening programme for prostate cancer as no reliable test is available; the common PSA test is not cancer specific and only provides an indicator to whether further investigation is necessary.

Prostate Cancer UK are supporting dads, brothers, partners and friends - by raising awareness, funding lifesaving research, campaigning for change and providing helpful support and information.

I must also mention Macmillan Cancer Support, their local team have been offering me great support through my treatment programme. Macmillan are one of the nominated charities for the Tour de 4 fundraising.

Although I am a keen cyclist and have undertaken longer rides than my Tour de 4 route in the past, my treatment programme has had a big negative impact on my fitness so riding 90Km feels like a real challenge. I have just three months to get myself into shape!

Please help me to raise funds to support the great work of Prostate Cancer UK, and to motivate me to be on the start and finish lines of the Tour de 4 in September.
