So… funny story.
Remember that hip replacement I had back in January? Well, under the influence of heavy-duty painkillers, feeling invincible, I thought it’d be a brilliant idea to sign up for a 40-mile charity bike ride - the Tour De 4 no less!
Now, if you know me even a little, you’ll know that I am not remotely athletic. My idea of endurance sport is making it through a full episode of Traitors without a snack break. And yet, here I am, signed up to ride a bicycle, on what is set to be a dreich September day in Glasgow, on roads not closed off to general traffic (eeeek!), for charity.
To make matters worse, my personal trainer is giving me a loan of his very fancy, very intimidating, bicycle. I am in total fear of scratching it or trashing it!
Anyway, there's no backing out now. I may be ridiculously terrified and hilariously uncoordinated on wheels but this is all part of a phenomenal event Tour De 4 shining a spotlight on Stage 4 cancer and, for me, in aid of a fantastic cause, Prostate Cancer UK.
As some of you know, prostate cancer is something that has affected my nearest and dearest this past 12-24 months. The charity, Prostate Cancer UK, does incredible work raising awareness and funding lifesaving research.
And so here I am, hip screws and all, pedalling for this great cause and would be eternally grateful for your sponsorship to make this madness worth it.
Please give generously—every pound will make my new hip feel slightly more justified in its suffering!
Thank you for your support, and stay tuned for sweaty, windswept selfies of me questioning all my life choices!
With love, bruises, and probably chafing,
Ross
PS - I have uploaded a couple of pics - one of me in training (check out the fear in those eyes!) and one with my good friend Chris Hoy getting some last-minute tips!
