Hi there,
Most, if not all of us will have been affected by cancer in some way, be that a diagnosis or a loved one or close friend being given a cancer diagnosis. I am no exception and it is encouraging to see that the fight against cancer is helping to make progress.
Having done some research into this progress myself though, it is also frustrating to learn that the success rates of cancer treatment when a late diagnosis is made are still the same now as they were 50 years ago.
So research and early diagnosis is vitally important, as the success rate is hugely improved if an early diagnosis is made.
It is also frustrating to learn that there is very limited funding channelled into research into Brain Cancer. My brother-in-law was very recently diagnosed with Stage 4 brain tumours and that moved me to want to support research into this, so what better way to try to raise some funds than Chris Hoy's "Tour de 4" event on 7th September this year.
I aim to train specifically towards this and also to keep everyone updated as to my progress through the summer. There will be some long sessions on my indoor turbo trainer and also out on the roads of Ayrshire and the Clyde Coast with maybe a trip or two to Arran thrown in too.
The following is taken from the Brain Tumour Research Website:
The vision is to find a cure for all types of brain tumours.
The mission is to increase the UK investment in brain tumour research.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
We are the only national charity in the UK focussed on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.
Although this is a specific cancer charity, it would mean so much if you could support me in my efforts to raise as much as possible for this underfunded area of research.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, every donation of any amount will help towards the Brain Tumour Charity's mission of funding research and creating research centres.
