I'm taking part in Sir Chris Hoy's cycling event the Tour de 4 in Glasgow on 7 September to raise funds for Myeloma UK. I've chosen this charity partly because a dear friend of ours was diagnosed with this at Christmas, and partly to raise awareness as I had never heard of it until our friend was diagnosed.

Myeloma is a type of blood cancer that affects the bones and can also affect other parts of the body. It's not curable, but it's manageable. However, the treatment regime is absolutely brutal.

Money raised helps Myeloma UK to provide comfort and reassurance to people affected, and to fund research that improves diagnoses, treatment and care.
