2025 was shaping up to be a massive year for my fiancé Meagan and I. With plans to emigrate and start a new life in Canada with our dream wedding booked for September, we had a lot to look forward to.

On March 17th, Meagan was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer and all else was put on hold. Having never experienced cancer personally, the road ahead was a scary prospect. I have also been fortunate enough to be healthy throughout my life and could not predict the extent to which the associated appointments and hospital visits would become part of our daily fabric.

My post is for two reasons:

1. To recognise the importance of the NHS in this country and how grateful we have been for their help so far. The entire team supporting us through Meagan's treatment plan have been phenomenal.

2. Maggie's Centre at The Western General have been a god send. A calm place to retreat after worrying hospital visits and welcoming space for myself while Meagan is receiving treatment. The staff and workshops available have made this whole process a great deal easier and given me reassurances amongst the misinformation you can find online.

As a result of this service, I want to give back and have decided to take on the Tour de 4, hosted by the legendary Chris Hoy who is battling his ongoing prostate cancer. I will cycle 56 miles for Maggie's Charity and hope you can donate what you can towards this cause. It has become a second home and I even write this post from Maggie's Centre with a donated pastry and unlimited supply of coffee.
