In June 2024 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, initially it was believed to be early stage and curable. Just two weeks later routine scans showed that the cancer had already spread to my lungs meaning that my diagnosis was upgraded to Stage 4, secondary breast cancer . Stage 4 cancer is treatable but is currently not curable. 31 women die every day in the UK due to secondary breast cancer , I will be one of them, yet it remains under funded and misunderstood.

The past year has been mentally and physically exhausting and painful but as I am now established on a medication regime and getting used to my new normal, I decided it’s time for a challenge. When I read about Tour de Four I knew I had to take part. Sir Chris Hoy is also dealing with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and wants as many people directly or indirectly affected by stage 4 cancer as possible to come together to pedal towards a future with better cancer treatments and outcomes.

On the 7th of September Chris will be leading a bike ride around Scotland, starting and finishing in the Glasgow Velodrome and I will be joining him virtually.

I’ll be doing the ride on a stationary bike, Nuffield Health have agreed I can use their facilities. It will be 39 tough miles and will include hills, sprints, sweat, chafing and tears!
