Thank you for reading my profile.
I am raising funds for Blood Cancer UK, a charity I have been raising funds for, over the past 20 years.
I am cycling the 57 mile Tour de 4 red route in memory of my twin son Andrew, photo included, who died, aged 15, 20 years ago from Leukaemia. He was a fit, very sporty teenager and a popular member of Dunfermline Carnegie Hockey club. In the weeks prior to his death, he was awarded the Youth Player of the Year for 2006. In his honour and memory, his hockey club organised players, friends and family for 5 successive years to take part in Pedal for Scotland, from 2006, to raise funds for Blood Cancer UK (formerly Leukaemia Research). Team Andy Stewart was made up of over 40 cyclists of all abilities. in 2008 over 90 cyclists, many from across the UK, took part after seeing the tv series “Children Fighting Cancer” which aired on BBC1, which featured Andrew and other children from across the UK. Team Andy Stewart successfully raised over £80,000 for vital research, to which I myself may have benefited.
In 2010, I was also diagnosed with Leukaemia, the news was initially devastating! However with the benefit of the wonderful Fife NHS Haematology team at the Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy and the Lothian NHS at the Western in Edinburgh, I am still here to tell the tale! I have had 4 lots of chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and a 3 yr course of daily chemo tablets and I have been in remission for the past 2 yrs. the daily chemo tablet was created from vital research prior to 2010.
All funds raised will go to Blood Cancer UK. Every contribution helps to fund vital research. Thank you so much for your contribution. It is much appreciated by myself and Blood Cancer UK.
You are keeping people like me alive.
Thank you.
