I’m taking part in Tour de 4 2026, the cycling event launched by Sir Chris Hoy following his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. It brings together people living with Stage 4 cancer, alongside friends, families and supporters, to ride side by side and raise vital funds. I'll be completing the red route - 91km 1150m elevation gain.
My Dad is suffering through stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The cancer causes many symptoms itself, but the treatment is also very tough. He's had many treatment cycles, which have been three different styles - each with their own benefits/consequences. He's done great to keep pushing doctors to get treatment, as it has been frustrating in periods between cycles, especially when he had been very ill with jaundice and ended being hospitalised. The treatment also means he's not able to get other treatments we'd all normally get (due to the medication or his immune system state) so it's hard to manage other symptoms. I'm really proud of how my parents have both battled through this (it's also really tough on Mum being the primary carer). While I'm struggling on the ride, I'll certainly be thinking of everything they've had to go through.
All funds raised from the event will go to charities supporting people affected by Stage 4 cancer. I've selected pancreatic cancer UK, as more research into how to diagnose early would really help. My Dad had the smallest symptoms, to only learn it was already stage 4 cancer. If you’re able to donate or share, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps provide vital support and care.
