I’m taking part in the Tour de 4 again in 2026 and will be raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
The support I received last year was so humbling and amazing, thankyou. My initial thought was that I should maybe just leave it at that. It was a one off that could never be repeated again. But actually… I gone and signed up to do the longest route again with the tough Tak Ma Doon mountain climb.
The reason is this: I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in May 2021, at the time I was given between 2 and 5 years to live. Here we are 5 years later, and thanks to the amazing NHS, I’m still fit and very much enjoying still being around. The NHS currently has 2 hormone therapy’s available to keep my cancer subdued, one has already faltered and I’m now on the 2nd one. One day this will falter too. There are however, many very promising new treatments and technologies being trialed that will help current and future cancer patients. Trials are expensive, but the day will come when stage 4 cancer is something you “live with” rather than a death sentence. When we support the Tour de 4 , we are helping current stage 4 cancer patients, and also ensuring the day will come when future ones don’t get the 2-5 year prognosis I was given.
The support my friends gave me last year was truly amazing. It is something that I will always be grateful for and proud to have been part of. Once again thankyou. If you could help a little this year, I would be very grateful.
