Hi, I'm Wendy, and I fostered SKYE after Australian Shepherds Furever, a nationwide rescue of volunteers, saved her from a neglect situation in MD. It was not easy to let her go! But, two months later, she was lucky to find a wonderful home. George and SKYE (formerly Koko) were a perfect fit at the MeetnGreet on July 19, 2021, and she followed him to the car on her own. SKYE quickly learned to catch and return the frisbee and went to Aussie events in George's area. Unfortunately, Skye suddenly began having seizures in mid-September and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Together, George and Skye began the necessary roller coaster of med adjustments. George sought both traditional and homeopathic treatment and during the fall and early winter, spent nearly $7,000 on her care.

 

During asymptomatic periods, George introduced SKYE to nosework, and she loved it and excelled! In January, she began intermittent clusters of seizures and resumed treatment at GUARDIAN VETERINARY SPECIALISTS with Dr. Erika Gibson DVM, DACVIM (Neurology) in Brewster, NY. The current estimate for her recent care is $6,853.07, if she is released later today and the transition goes well. The estimate includes a reminder that there could be additional charges if her condition changes and additional procedures are needed. She will also always be on medications. For those reasons, we have set our goal at $8,000. All funds go directly to GUARDIAN.
