Please help my sweet girl, Cora

Hi guys, my name is Amanda and I’m the mom to my silly girl, Cora. She is a very sweet, funny girl who everyone falls in love with once you meet her. Unfortunately Sunday afternoon, everything changed. I came home from the gym and noticed a small amount of what looked like food thrown up and I thought it was from one of the cats. I was cleaning up around the apartment, and then Cora threw up a couple piles of bile. I wasn’t worried because she sometimes eats bits of toys (such a lab) and was acting fine. She then cried to go outside where she had some diarrhea and then went I brought her back inside she threw up 2 piles of blood. Immediately I knew something was wrong and took her to the closest ER vet.

Upon arrival and after checking in, she threw up blood again and they gave her an anti-nausea right away. We did X-rays, bloodwork, and they sent me home with meds. After being home for no more than 30 minutes, she pooped straight blood, and there was a lot of it. I took her back and we then hospitalized her. They diagnosed her with HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). The cause for it is really unknown as it really just is a change in their gut micro biome (a bad bacteria that naturally occurs in the gut takes over all the good bacteria). It can happen from changes in environment, stress, or viral infections. She was hospitalized till Monday night where I took her home and then she could not control her bowel movements and there was fecal matter just coming out of her non stop. Her poor behind was already so raw and red and I couldn’t do anything to help, I brought her back in for observation. I picked her up the next morning at this point she was leaking light pink fluid from behind, and then I knew something was wrong cause she was acting sedated. She did get prescribed some “happy drugs” to calm her down Sunday night so I assumed that they gave it to her again. I called the vet to double check, and they did not give her any sedatives. I brought her back in and thankfully I did cause she was severely dehydrated and was at risk for going into shock, or worse. They hospitalized her again and put her back on fluids and things where starting to look up Wednesday during the day. She was her happy self again and was eating, and controlling her bowel movements. But then it turned into uncontrollable diarrhea again, and they said let’s start a dewormer and antibiotics to see if this helps. I got a call Wednesday night after visiting her and they said it’s now back to blood. They said she is going to need long term hospitalization most likely, but we just started the antibiotics so hopefully things will get better but they don’t know why the blood came back and talked about a plan for long care.

I have just a little bit left on my care credit and then it’s maxed out. I am worried that she is going to need to stay in the hospital for up to another week or longer and it’s very expensive and I’m running out of funds, it’s already a bill of over 7k. So if you are reading this and have any money you can donate no matter how small, please donate and most importantly share this. I want to get her better as it’s a long term treatment thing most likely, and shes my baby and my whole world. Please share this post as much as you can and do whatever you can to help get this post to as many people as possible and maybe Cora’s story will touch some peoples hearts that can help me to keep paying for her treatment. Thank you so much for your time and support and I will do my best to keep everyone updated.
