Hi there!! As many of you know, this past May I rescued the sweetest Doberman pup. We found her right off the side of the road in Dinuba, CA (think farmland), hobbling over to us with a broken foot. With her wounds most likely being a month old and left untended, she also suffered from an infection which resulted in bone loss. For 3 months, with the help of incredible parents and a loving partner, we tended to her leg, her health, and her emotional wounds. We hoped that if the infection that was eating her bone could be removed, her fracture would heal. Unfortunately, while the rest of her foot recovered in bone density, where it mattered most, the point of fracture, would not reconnect.

While amputation was always on the table, the decision to take the foot was not easy, for with the foot, comes the whole leg.. at the thigh. However, the decision to rescue Anubis was a no-brainer, even though it was clear she would need a lot of care. She is my spirit companion, my sweet little butterfly, loving goofball, and mama’s girl. The greatest gift I can offer her is the promise that I will not abandon her because the care required nor the medical bills are too great.

Anubis, named after the Egyptian god of the dead, came to me in a period of great loss as I grieved the passing of my grandfather. She is a gift, a light, and a joy. I’m asking my friends and family for any support you are able to offer to help make this transition easier. Because lordy, have I spent the whole summer working for her medical bills and they’re still coming! We are expecting the total cost of amputation to be around $3,500 - $4,000.

But for all those who have met her, and those who have yet to meet her, you can tell just how special she truly is.. My sweet baby Anubis, a gift in grief.
