Laurie's Story
Told by her sibling's Deborah Wirth, James Wirth, and Jennifer Graham.
In Nov 2021 Laura was diagnosed with stage 4B Uterine Cancer. She needed to have a total hysterectomy. Before the hysterectomy could take place Laura needed nephrostomy tubes implanted to keep her kidneys healthy. This meant living with urine bags strapped to each leg. Doctors recommended she have six treatments of Chemo which she completed. She started them in January. February she was able to get stents to replace the nephrostomy tubes. Yeah no more urine bags! Finally by June she was done with the 6 chemo treatments only to find out that she has a new mass where her uterus was. Doctors recommended 3 more chemo treatments to shrink the new mass. At the end of the 3rd treatment Laura developed an allergic reaction to the chemo. The mass was still present. Laura has undergone additional chemo and amino therapy treatments. The cancer is still growing. Due to infections Laura has been hospitalized several times. Recently, Laura experienced severe hip pain which caused her to be hospitalized December 20th thru December 31st. It really bothered her that she had to miss a second Christmas in a row without family. The stents have stopped working. The doctors needed to reimplant nephrostomy tubes to protect her kidneys and a surgery is scheduled to remove the stents next week. After checking her hip inside and out literally, the doctors concluded that the hip is fine. The pain is radiating to there from one of a few other possible places like the cancer or the stents. It has been a long journey that is far from over. She needs your help!
Your donations will help her with medical bills, co-pays, expenses such as a shower chair and two different types of walkers (she needs from time to time), scooter rentals when available to enable a better quality of life allowing Laura the ability to participate in fun times with family, travel expenses getting back and forth to Roswell Park (which Laura goes 2 to 3 times per week lately), parking tolls, unexpected expenses etc. etc. etc...
Laura is also doing all she can to help other women by donating her tissues to Roswell Park Cancer Institute for research purposes. She has been involved in two different trials so far to help further their research to find better ways to combat this terrible disease and save more women's lives in the future. She's doing her part. Lets do ours!
Laura provided care for both of her elderly Grandmothers. She did every and anything she could to help them during their time of need. She went beyond what was expected of her. Neither of them where institutionalized in nursing homes due to the help provided. She is a very loving and caring person. Laura saw a need to help the elderly to keep them in their own homes as long as possible. She quit her job back in 2010 to become self employed, assisting them with daily chores, meal prep and companionship.
Since 2003 Laura has volunteered with her local firehall @ Terry's Corners on their axillary, where she is still a member today. She preformed kitchen duties and was instrumental in helping to achieve their results at fund raising events. I believe that now its her turn please give knowing that there is no better cause.
Laura has always had an exceptional work ethic. She worked two and three jobs at a time most of her working career. Thru College, where she earned her associates degree in Social Sciences, Laura worked before school and after school working three jobs while attending school full time.
Now it is our turn to help Laura "Laurie". Please donate now while it is fresh on your mind. A simple donation from several people can really add up. We have set up a separate account for your contributions so you can be assured it is going directly to Laura and her needs. Know that your donations are very much appreciated.
THANK YOU!!
