Matt to go to UCLA Seizure Disorder Center

An awesome human being, Matthew turned 30 last year. He is a total Nerd. His love for Star Wars, Legos and McGyver-like fixes was definitely inherited. As an adult, he is following his passion and works in an old, established comic book store where he spends time with like-minded people, holds Magic games and teaches a new generation of children how to have fun without a computing device at hand.
Matt has recently been diagnosed with abnormal epileptic seizures . His life is in complete limbo and his independence is at stake. When he has a grand mal seizure it really takes everything out of him, so he has to miss several days of work. Public transportation is limited where he lives, so he relies on friends, family and others to help him get around.
With Matt’s permission, I started doing some research and found that the Mayo Clinic has some of the best neurologists and testing facilities in the world. They take patients from around the world too. And most importantly, they have agreed to admit Matthew for treatment.
We are raising money to get him to Mayo Clinic to see an epilepsy specialist. The Mayo Clinic is in Rochester, Minnesota and it does not take Matthew's insurance. He is considered a self-pay patient. Mayo needs an initial retainer of $5000 to bill Matt's medical expenses against. Plus $1500 for travel and lodging expenses.
Matt will most likely need to spend a week in Minnesota, so that he can take the needed tests and see the correct doctors. The sooner we can get Matt to the Mayo Clinic, the sooner he can start to get his life back on track and bless us with his smile and easy-going nature.
BACKGROUND INFO:
Shortly after Matt's 30th birthday, he received an "out-of-left-field" cancer diagnosis that completely rocked his world. He needed to have major surgery, followed by chemotherapy to eradicate it. He also took time off at work, but he has always maintained his positive attitude and pushed on through. By summer's end 2018, he was given the "all clear" by his doctors.
Three months after beating cancer, in early November 2018, Matt had his first grand mal seizure. He ended up in an ambulance, taken to the ER and was treated and released with a note to go see a doctor.
Since then, Matthew has lost his driving privileges, has had several epileptic seizures and gone through a few drug trials that were overseen by a local neurologist.
This why Matt needs to get to get additional treatments.
