My Son Mac

Donation protected
Thank you so much for your time. Sixteen years ago my wife, Susan, died of pancreatic cancer. My two sons, MacGregor and Peter, were 24 and 21.

Now MacGregor, like his mother, has been diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer, at age 41. Mac’s Mom grew up in Montreal, and one of her last wishes was for me to secure dual citizenship for both boys, which I did.

Mac — a sculptor, painter, activist, and graphic designer — had been contemplating moving to Montreal for a long time and he finally did so in May of this year. Everything was falling beautifully into place: he’s been enjoying setting up his apartment in the wonderful la Petite-Patrie neighborhood, and he landed a job as creative director at a thriving marketing firm here in the city. And then this.

I have taken an indefinite leave of absence from my work as a graphic designer so that I can be with Mac. Pete and his family are doing what they can to move up here from Vermont as soon as possible. Because I will not have much income during all of this, funds raised will help defray any unreimbursed medical expenses, and help with general living expenses for Mac and me (his rent, food, etc.) We cannot imagine not being nearby to help support Mac as he deals with this dreadful disease. The Harp family extends our warmest thanks and appreciation — and love — for any support you can offer.
