Hey everyone,
We have an update. Long story short…
My Sister’s House is moving.
Because of circumstances outside of our control, our time in the Winter Park space is coming to an end a lot sooner than we expected. We had full support from our landlord, but the HOA that governs the complex is not down with the number of people we bring to our shows and forcing us to shut down our events.
It’s frustrating, but we press on.
We’ve found a new spot and we will be continuing everything on our schedule exactly as planned. The shows, the people, the feeling of the room. That part doesn’t change.
What we can’t take with us are the murals.
Prior to opening, 7 brilliant and talented local artists - Reality___Check___, Fiorelart, Junebug Tangerine, Memento Mari, Sasha Marina, Xine, and Zeph - spent cumulatively hundreds of hours transforming that space.
Late nights, long days, a lot of care went into those walls. That work became a huge part of what My Sister’s House is.
And we don’t want to lose it.
So the main goal of this GoFundMe is to preserve those murals in a way that lets them live on with us. We’re planning to capture and recreate them as freestanding vinyl pieces that can move into the next space. That cost comes out to about $1,800.
On top of that, the move itself comes with some real, immediate costs:
• $1,000 for moving and logistics
• $3,800 for curtains and other materials to build out the new room
• Security deposits and basic setup costs for the new space
If we’re able to go beyond that, we’d also like to keep access to the Winter Park location in some form so that the original murals can stay intact and the space can be transformed into a rehearsal room and affordable content and music studio for artists. That would mean adding a few things like a digital console with the ability multitrack record and a ramp to make it functional. Plus, since we are bringing all the furniture with us, we will need to purchase some things to make the old space comfortable as well for those rehearsing.
This project has always been about community. The artists, the bands, the people who show up and make the room what it is.
If you’ve been part of it, thank you.
If you want to help us carry this into the next space and not lose a huge part of what we built, this is a direct way to do that.
Same house, new address.
We’ll see you there.
