Hello, My name is Michaela and our family has been given such terrible news. My sister has been diagnosed with cancer.

It all started with her not feeling well, having multiple headaches and wanting to sleep a lot, that lead to dizziness , troubles seeing/ walking , to vommiting, so a hospital visit was necessary. She got to the hospital in Saint John New Brunswick where she just recently moved a few months ago. She continued to be sick to her stomach in the waiting room and they gave her gravel and thought it could be vertigo. There plan was to send her home until my sister couldn’t even keep the gravel down and said she did have this new little bump , almost the size of a pimple on the back of her neck so they decided to do a cat scan.

The doctor came into her emergency room about a half hour after the scan and said they found a brain tumour, and she was admitted to hospital. When my aunt called me with that call saying my sister had a brain tumour it broke my heart as I have never seen my sister sick, and nobody wants to see their family member sick.

So a few days go by and they do a full body MRI to see if there were any other tumours in her body just to be safe, well results come back and they tell her she has a lesion in her lung and 3 in her brain. One near the frontal lobe and 2 in the cerebellum one being the size of a ping pong ball.

They decided to do a lung biopsy to just make sure it’s not cancerous, so they do the biopsy and send her home with her meds so she can be more comfortable and then she would have a follow up appt the next week to discuss biopsy results. She goes home on the Friday morning and then her symptoms come back full force on the Sunday, so she heads back into hospital.

She gets re admitted to hospital and they start her steroid drug to help with the brain swelling through iv as her body wasn’t absorbing it properly orally.

Then on Tuesday night I get the news that no sister wants to her. “Alicia has cancer” it instantly broke my heart and made me feel so helpless and scared. She has melanoma that started from a mole and has spread to her lungs and brain. They have done and mri to do the mapping she will then next week be starting 5 days of radiation and then we will know next step based on how her body responds to the radiation.

Long story is my sister is going to be unwell and fighting cancer for quite some time and her medications are very very expensive and she is self employed as a massage therapist so has no money coming in and her amazing boyfriend has taken a compassionate leave as she won’t be able to be home alone once released from hospital.

I am trying to raise some money for her to help her through this very difficult time so she can not have to stress about money and be able to afford to keep her home and get her medications. Every little bit helps.

Thank you everyone who took the time to read this story, please share as there may be other people going through the same thing and even if you can’t afford to donate it might help save someone who is having the same symptoms. ❤️

my sister is such a positive light of hope, and keeping the biggest smile on her face, and I know our mom will be with her every step of the way. ❤️ She’s a fighter.

Much love everyone ❤️ thank you for reading and sharing.
