Pls Help My Sister Beat Stage 4 Metastatic Cancer
Donation protected
MOST CURRENT NOV 2023 – My sister’s cancer continues to be relentless. When I first created this GoFundMe, she was three months into chemotherapy. At that time the cancer had spread into both lungs and several of her bones. In May, we were all happy to hear that the chemo was working and had slowed the progression of her cancer. Unfortunately, it wasn’t even a month later when we learned that 7 tumors had appeared in her brain. She underwent two sessions of targeted radiation called, Cyberknife. In late September, the family found ourselves relieved that the radiation worked and the tumors had stopped growing. But here we are again… just having received news that my sister has three new tumors in her brain and one that was not treated the first time that has grown significantly. She will be going back in for additional Cyberknife treatments the week after Thanksgiving. As we go into 2024, she will be facing copays for scans, chemotherapy and other medical expenses. Any and all support is greatly appreciated. It has been three years of her fighting for her life while also working full time. She is exhausted both mentally and physically. We are so grateful for all of you who continue to love and support Wendy through this difficult time. Read below for her full story and monthly updates.
Dear friends and family,
I am writing this campaign on behalf of my sister Wendy Meyers, who is currently in treatment for advanced stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. My sister is an incredibly kind and dynamic person who has dedicated her life to helping others via non-profits, education, and vaccine administration during the Covid crisis.
Wendy was originally diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer two days before her 40th birthday in 2013. She fought the battle of her life while undergoing a double mastectomy, breast reconstruction surgery and four rounds of chemotherapy. A little over a year later she was deemed 'cancer free' and had a 90% of staying that way. Family and friends could not have been more proud and ecstatic for her recovery. Each year that passed was a sigh of relief as the cancer remained at bay.
Fast forward to 2020 and her oncologist believed that she was in the clear. However, something felt off and being the survivor and fighter that my sister is, she asked that her oncologist order some scans. Unfortunately, much to the shock of everyone it was determined that the cancer had returned as metastatic breast cancer in her left lung. Metastatic cancer is treated very differently than cancer isolated to one area of the body. Once it has moved out of its original spot it is assumed by doctors that it can be anywhere, not just in the area in which it originally presented. There is no cure for metastatic cancer. Only treatments to stop the progression with the hope of stopping it altogether. However, even once that happens, my sister will have to remain on a low-dose treatment plan to keep the cancer from returning.
Even with working full time, Wendy's recent cancer diagnosis has put a tremendous financial burden on her, dramatically affecting all areas of her life. The cancer continues to progress and is now in several areas of her body. The medical expenses for cancer treatment are extremely high and insurance only covers a fraction of it. I am asking anyone able to help Wendy to please consider. Anything truly helps in order to cover the costs of treatments, medications, healthy meal plans, and other related expenses.
Wendy is incredibly resilient and optimistic (truly my hero) and although the Chemo has taken a strong toll on her energy, she continues to inspire those around her with her positivity and unstoppable resolve to beat this unimaginable situation.
We are turning to the kindness and generosity of friends, family, and the community to help us reach our goal of $25,000. No donation is too small, and every penny will go towards making Wendy's fight against cancer a little bit easier. We are so truly grateful for the support. If you prefer to lend a helping hand, please visit my sister’s GiveInKind.com page for weekly updates and opportunities to help with meals, rides, coffee dates and other things to keep her spirits up.
Please share this campaign with your friends and family and help us spread the word. We are confident that, with your support, Wendy will come out on top and beat cancer… again!!
Thank you for your time and generosity.
Sincerely,
Kirk Meyers
