- Hi, my name is Malisa & I'm fundraising for my sister & her family. My nephew has tourettes syndrome, which was passed down from my brother-in-law. My nephew started to have a really hard time with his tourettes when he started going through puberty. His tics were getting bad where he couldn't concentrate in school & it was affecting his social life. As a teenager, this is devastating, especially after being very social & always playing sports. He was getting depressed & mentally & physically exhausted! It was affecting not only him, but also the family & especially their household. My nephew was biting his cheeks & his mouth was bleeding & he couldn't eat. His mom & dad decided to get him brain surgery, called DBS, after much research. We knew it could take a while after the surgery to get better. For a while it was worse. He was biting his tongue off & not eating or wanting to live. They turn the leads in the brain up little by little. With much care from many doctors & of course his mom & dad , family, my nephew is finally starting to feel better. I don't wish this upon any family! My nephew, sister & brother-in-law are the strongest people I know. Now that my nephew is getting better, after my sister being out of work 4 months, my sister's able to go back to work. After all of this, now my brother-in-law finds out that he has lesions on his brain & having elevated seizures. He has not been acting the same for a while, but since they were dealing with their son, he never went to the doctor for himself, until he started throwing up & having major stomach pains. All in all, they have been through hell & back & to boot, the insurance company says they will not pay for the surgery because it is not FDA approved for tourettes, even though they have tried everything else. So please, pray that my brother-in-law is okay & if you can donate to help pay for this much needed surgery, that would be helpful & much appreciated. If you can't, any prayers would also be appreciated. Thanks.
