Help my sister Faye get her ulnar nerve surgery

My name is Rebecca and I’m reaching out to ask for your help in raising money for my sister, Faye, to have ulnar nerve surgery. She has been dealing with chronic pain and limited use of her arm for two years. This first meant she could no longer do her hobbies (rock climbing or any training in the gym) and later meant she had to reduce work hours and struggle with daily tasks.

It’s a condition of the ulnar nerve that ultimately prevents her from using her arm properly, and despite physiotherapy and other treatments, her ability to use her arm has only declined. She also has scoliosis, a diffuse disc bulge, and lateral recess stenosis causing nerve root compression, which contribute to pain and mobility difficulties in the lower body. Together, these conditions have further limited her quality of life, as most days going for a walk over 10-15 minutes is not doable.

Due to the arm, she’s unable to do basic tasks like cutting food or washing her hair, which has had a huge impact on her independence and makes day-to-day life hard.

She’ll need surgery for her arm and potentially her lumbar spine. The spine surgery would be far too expensive so she is more than happy to wait for the NHS to decide. But the arm surgery is more reasonable and just this surgery alone should hopefully allow her to get a chunk of her daily independence back (hobbies involving the upper body, basic housework, and washing her hair). The NHS waiting list for this surgery is currently three years. The only option for Faye to receive treatment sooner is to go private, but the total cost, including surgery and recovery, is upwards of £4,000. It’s not a large amount but due to a mix of unforeseen expenses (these medical issues so far and property related issues such as an urgent new roof after a storm) and Faye’s hours reducing, expendable income for her is very limited and will be for some time.

Asking for help isn’t something she wants to do, but it’s not nice seeing someone’s spark dwindle. Our family just wants our old Faye back, and I want my sister and climbing partner back! It’s so hard seeing her struggle so much, and the impact it’s having on her life.
