Help My sister become more independent
Donation protected
I would like to raise up to £1500 to help buy my sister a light weigh mobility scooter to help regain her independence after a life changing operation which has affected her mobility.
Carly Is only 44 years old; she has worked in the care sector for nearly 10 years supporting vulnerable adults, she always gives them 100% of her attention and tries to make their days as fulfilling as possible.
And was an active parent and grandparent.
Just before Christmas she started experiencing pins and needles and some numbness in her foot but carried on working.
The following night she was awoken by lower back pain and also an unbearable shooting pain going up her right leg. She was unable to sit or stand she was advised to go to A and E by NHS direct despite them seeing how distressed she was they simply put it down to sciatica which was a miss diagnoses and sent her home with pain killers.
She was in bed for 29 days only able to lie on her left side, I spoke to a sports therapist and arranged a visit to do some treatments on her and she advised my sister to ask her doctor to refer her for a MRI scan as she believed it was not sciatica.
The doctor was unable to do this and had to refer her to a physio therapist who then could refer her for an emergency MRI scan.
Directly after the MRI she was diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome and was rushed to the heath hospital and operated on the next day.
Due to the miss diagnoses she has lost a lot of her mobility and now walks with a stick for short distances.
A mobility scooter would let her be able to go out with her granddaughter who she cares for regularly. And for her not to feel so isolated and make it easier to leave her home.
Cauda equina syndrome is a rare and severe spinal condition that occurs when the base of the spine becomes compressed.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help her have a better quality of life whilst her mobility is so poor.
Many thanks.
