Last night, at just 26 weeks pregnant, my sister unexpectedly went into pre-term labor. At 10:34 p.m., my nephew Liam entered this world, weighing at 2 pounds and 4oz . His fight for life began the very moment he took his first breath.

Because of his critical condition, Liam was immediately life-flighted to the Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he will remain in the NICU for the next couple months.

While we are endlessly grateful for the doctors and nurses giving him the best chance possible, the financial burden is overwhelming. Between mounting medical bills, the cost of traveling to and from the hospital, and the time my sister will need to take off work to be by her baby’s side, the strain is immense.
