Hi everyone My name is Mia, and I’m fundraising for my sick mum, Lisa. This is our story. I’m 18 years old, and my mum is 48. It’s only ever been me and her since the day I was born. She’s been my mum, my best friend, my safe place, and my whole world. I honestly couldn’t begin to explain how much this woman has done for me. I don’t know who I’d be without her, and all I want in this life is to give her everything she deserves and make as many memories with her as I possibly can while we still have time. On the 25th of July 2022, our lives changed forever when my mum was diagnosed with grade 3, fast growing breast cancer. It came as a complete shock. Thankfully, it was caught quickly, and after endless hospital visits, surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, my mum was finally told she was cancer-free. We thought the worst was behind us. Alongside everything, my mum also lives with fibromyalgia and ME, conditions that cause her constant pain and exhaustion. Earlier this year, she started experiencing new symptoms, including a chest infection that just wouldn’t go away. She tried to push through it, putting it down to her fibromyalgia, like she always does. But when things didn’t improve, she went to the doctors. After listening to her chest, the doctor said something didn’t feel right and booked her in for a full body scan. Not long after, we received the news we were dreading, the cancer was back. This time, it’s metastatic breast cancer, secondary breast cancer in her lung. After many hospital appointments, we were told that the cancer is in an area of the lung that can’t be operated on. That means it isn’t curable. They are treating it, but our world shattered hearing those words. We’ve also been told there is a very tiny, slow-growing cancer in her brain. We’ve been told not to worry about it yet, but it’s still terrifying. The past few weeks have been incredibly hard. My mum’s pain is getting worse, and her mental health is at an all time low. Watching the strongest person I know hurt like this absolutely breaks me. On top of everything, life is a real struggle right now, and the stress only makes everything heavier for her. This year, our biggest wish is to travel together, to visit her dream destinations and make as many beautiful memories as we can, while we still have the chance. But as a single mum who isn’t currently able to work, and as an only child working 2 jobs trying to save but still has bills and rent to pay, this feels almost impossible. As her baby, I want to do everything I can to make this happen. My mum deserves the world. She deserves joy, peace, laughter, and moments she can hold onto forever.
