Hi everyone,

My name is Shaiyan Makwana, and I’m a Grade 11 student at J.L. Crowe Secondary School, Tail, BC. I’m incredibly grateful to share that I’ve been accepted into the SHAD 2026 Summer Program, a highly competitive and prestigious opportunity for high‑achieving students across Canada. I’m creating this GoFundMe to ask for support in helping me attend the program this July 2026.

SHAD is a month‑long enrichment program focused on STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), as well as entrepreneurship and leadership development. Throughout the program, students that have been selected, work together to solve real‑world problems through hands‑on projects while learning directly from university professors and industry professionals. One of the most exciting parts of SHAD is that students live on campus, gaining firsthand experience of university life and academics.

The program takes place at one of 20 partner universities across Canada, including the University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, York University, and the University of Waterloo. Through SHAD, I will have the opportunity to connect with like‑minded students from across the country, deepen my understanding of complex subjects, and become part of a national SHAD alumni network that spans more than 40 years.

This opportunity means a great deal to me because I hope to pursue a future career in neurology. SHAD will help me strengthen my leadership skills, build lifelong friendships, and develop a strong foundation in science and problem‑solving that will support me throughout post‑secondary education. Alongside my academics, I am actively involved in my community by teaching swimming lessons, working as a lifeguard, and volunteering at the hospital, all while maintaining an A average in my classes. These experiences have helped shape my passion for healthcare and reinforced my commitment to helping others.

The cost of attending SHAD is significant, and I am seeking financial support to help cover the expenses associated with the program, including tuition, residence, and related costs. Any contribution — big or small — would make a meaningful difference and help make this opportunity possible for me.
