My Seesters Fight

Hello! My name is LeaJane (LJ) I am the one and only little sister to Rachel (Rae) Jernigan. My seester is a beautiful wife, mother, Lovey, daughter, aunt and best friend to not only me, but several other girls as well. She is needing your prayers! With HER permission I am going to share her story.

November 15, 2023 she went in for a routine mammogram, that mammogram needed a closer look, on 11/21/23 she had a 2nd mammogram. Next, Dr L. Bell ordered a biopsy to be done on 11/27/23. On November 29, 2023 her world fell apart.. she got a call from her doctor, that No one wants to get. She has CANCER! Rachel

has Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma HER2 TRIPLE Positive Breast Cancer. This is a very aggressive cancer and THANK THE LORD above that my sister is so adamant in doing her routine screenings. This cancer is very small and CANNOT be felt with the hand, it was ONLY caught by Dr Bell knowing what she was looking at on the mammogram. She caught this EARLY and we are so thankful. Sister has since had multiple test, screenings, blood work, biopsies, etc. She also was ordered to have a colonoscopy (thank goodness) that came back with a very large PRE CANCEROUS polyp!! Dr Joseph removed that & now she will need another colonoscopy in 6 months. She would not have done that test if she was not going through all this right now, but since her doctor recommended it she got it done. So THANKFUL she listened and did that. Next, a plan was made with Dr Seffense to have a lumpectomy on January 4, 2024. First she had to have a genetic test done to see if this might have been something she inherited. Dr Seffense put a STAT order on his part of that test so he could proceed on with the lumpectomy on 1/4/24. Well, on December 29, 2023 she received a call that she in fact had a POSITIVE genetic mutation for the Chek2 gene. Which was inherited. That means she is at a much higher risk for cancer. With that news she met again with Dr Seffense and decided to cancel the lumpectomy surgery and instead do a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery to be performed by Dr Koonce. She met with Dr Koonce January 8,2024 and was notified she will be going into surgery on January 9, 2024. PRAISE JESUS!!! God is moving mountains to get my sister HEALED!! As you can imagine her emotions are all over the place. She is trying to take it one day at a time. One foot in front of the other but she does get overwhelmed. This is the hardest thing that she has ever had to go through. As of right now the plan is chemotherapy for a year, so sis still has a long road ahead of her. I have FULL FAITH that she WILL come out VICTORIOUS on the other side of all of this. Rae is surrounded by an amazing TEAM of doctors, that have went above and beyond to make sure she is good, and they are moving so quickly! She has TONS of support from her family, friends, and co-workers who ARE her extended family! She is so blessed to be married to the greatest man, her BEST friend and my brother in law who has been and will continue to be right at her side, holding her hand, praying for her EVERY SINGLE DAY! Today, I decided to set up this GO FUND ME to help with all her medical expenses and Greg's time off of work to be with Rae. I don’t want anything more being put on her plate as this is the time to heal and rest, Seester and Brother will be missing a lot of work now and this coming year. She has more surgeries scheduled and treatments. As we all know Cancer treatment isn’t cheap along with daily living expenses, she is already over $10k In medical costs and that’s not with surgery and treatment…that’s just getting her to where we are now….

If anyone knows my seester, you know she loves hard, she is full of laughter, and the life of the party! Her smile is contagious And her fight just became MY fight! Our fight!

I understand times are tough and if you can’t help financially, no worries. I just ask that you please remember her in your prayers. Our God is a Mighty God. He has already been hearing and answering our prayers. Keep them coming! We sure appreciate all the love she has been shown. Continued prayers as she is about to start her next adventure in KICKING CANCERS ASS!
