Hi, my name is Ty’Asia Brown, and I am a freshman at Louisiana State University, majoring in computer science with a concentration in cybersecurity. My journey in STEM has been driven by a passion for leadership, mentorship, and making a difference in my community.

Beyond my academic pursuits, I dedicate my time to giving back—whether it’s mentoring young students in STEM through the Society of Peer Mentors, working at the World Language Lab to help others grow their linguistic skills, or volunteering at the Companion Animal Alliance, the only animal rescue organization in East Baton Rouge Parish. Additionally, I am part of the Chevron Leadership Academy, where I am learning the essential skills to become a workforce-ready, effective leader.

But leadership isn’t just about what you learn in classrooms or local communities—it’s about broadening your horizons, understanding different cultures, and learning how to collaborate with people from all walks of life. That’s why I am beyond excited to have been accepted into a study abroad program in London and Edinburgh! This opportunity will allow me to explore the cultural and governmental differences between the U.S. and the U.K., as well as learn how global perspectives shape leadership and innovation. For someone in cybersecurity, understanding people is just as important as understanding technology. The more I learn about different cultures, values, and systems, the better I can contribute to creating inclusive and effective tech solutions in the future.
