Following my crash with Connor Coles on April 19th I’ve been suffering with a badly damaged hip in and around the joint, all season I’ve been fighting through the pain and lack of mobility and strength in the hip, after physio and consultations with hip specialists I got referred to the Dr whom is undergoing my surgery, the only fix to my problem is key hole surgery to give me a pain free life and let me return to speedway next season.
The original plan was obviously to get the operation and everything else on the NHS but unfortunately the waiting list for the surgery was 12-14 months with the 3-6 months on top of that for recovery so I would have had to sit out the entire of the 2027 season and potentially a lot of the 2028 season.
I would just like to say a massive thank you to The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund who have supported me throughout this journey without them I wouldn’t have made it through this season and most importantly the speedway family all you great supporters who are so passionate about our sport and have us riders at best interest by raising the funds to support us in these dark times. Thankfully I went 10 years in British speedway without the need to call upon the help of The Benevolent Fund but when I needed it just like they are for every rider they were there to help me it definitely helped mentally with the amount of stress you go through in these tough times.
On Wednesday the 30th September I went for my pre op and met with the Dr and Nurses who will be helping me through my operation and recovery, all went to plan and now I’m waiting to undergo my surgery on the 17th October. After speaking with my Dr about what I do being a speedway rider and needing to be back in time for the start of the 2027 season he seemed very confident that after fixing the problems on the 17th and doing everything properly with the recovery I’ll be as good as new for next season and can get back to racing to my full ability and push on to the next step/level like I know I can. It makes me happy and confident having a Dr who was so interested in the sport and wanted to help me get back to winning races.
Obviously the costs are massive and I’m funding as much as I possibly can along with the help from the benevolent fund and my family, I’ve set up this GoFundMe page to anyone who would like to help towards the costs of my operation and rehabilitation everything from a couple of quid to whatever you can donate will go such a long way to help take the financial pressure off me while I recover from my operation with the recovery time looking to be between 3-6 months to be back to 100% again.
I’m a very grateful person and don’t take the help I receive for granted so any donations or even sharing this around would mean the absolute most to me and it won’t go unnoticed! I’ll keep everyone updated on my racing page throughout the journey to be back to 100% for the 2027 season.
