My road from heaven through hell and back

Luis Alonso is a regular guy, commited to a healthy lifestyle, and with great conviction on helping others through example.

But life threw him a curveball in 2014, with only 29 years old and a life to live - a diagnosis of Crohn's Disease changed the plan.

As the years passed and after uncountless tests and treatments, it felt like life was stacking more and more bricks over his shoulders.

Figthing against medical indiference and abuse, in 2019, things took a terrifying turn. His intestine colapsed because of this relentless disease. After unimaginable pain and hours waiting in an emergency room, surgery was the only viable option. An intern, who was still learning the ropes, was entrusted with the surgery. Mistakes were made, and Luis's already tough battle got even tougher.

He came out of surgery with a colostomy. It never felt completely functional and as the years rolled out, Luis's colostomy started to close up, making life's simple things, such as eating, unbearable.

He reached out to the doctor in charge, desperately seeking for help. But instead of compassion and professionalism, he was treaterd with indifference.

The waiting list to get a close up of the problem was over a year. And the doctor was not rushing nor showing interest in taking care of the situation, which at the moment was an emergency.

For five long years, the treatments meant to help Luis were sabotaged by that early botched surgery. In front of the doctor's eyes, and because of his incompetence, another emergency struck.

Once again, the only way out was surgery, the same that once put him trough an unbearable recovery path, where he suffered medical abuse and indifference to all of the pain he went through.

Overwhelmed by years of struggling, and with mind and body weakened, he lost all hope.

After walking the darkest path, and with his life fading with each passing second, he prayed for a miracle, and it came in the shape of a surgeon. This doctor presented a new opportunity, without abuse and without going through the pain that had marked every part of his body and mind.

The big hurdle between life and death, was the financial cost. An expensive surgery and treatments.

Luis decided to fight one more time and place his bet on a future with his family and friends. He opted for a second surgery, with a new outlook awaiting him, along with an entirely different level of care than that he had experienced in the public healthcare system, care that every human being should received.

Now the journey continues, with the determination to reclaim his health, peace of mind and self love. However, the decision to fight for his physical and emotional well-being comes at a high cost.

The funds raised hold a profound purpose – to bear the weight of the accumulated medical bills that have burdened Luis throughout his battle with Crohn's Disease and an inhuman medical system. Every dollar contributed, offers hope and relief by lightening the financial load that has been placed upon him.

It's a heartfelt effort to ensure that Luis can focus on healing, knowing that the weight of medical expenses no longer stands in the way of his journey towards a fullfilling life.
