While I prefer my arts name Mr Bird my given name is Gary Eklund and I was a peace activist in Iowa in the 1980s.

I spent 10 years working at what was then The Association For Retarded Citizens ARC Of Rock Island County. Which is why I wrote "A Beginners Guide To Sign Language For Agencies and Families".

When direct care workers at Rock Island ARC voted about 100 to 1 to unionize with Illinois AFSCME union I served on the 1st 2 negotiating committees to negotiate our 1st contracts.
